This is the very varied Common Froghopper (Philaenus spumarius) clinging nicely to my shed wall.

What an interesting … bug, insect?
At first glance I thought it was a roach.

It is an insect and one that starts off life in those small masses of cuckoo-spit glued to flowers and leaves.

Fantastic! It looks a bit like as if it is from another planet 🙂 An unusual and aerodynamic form.

It’s amazing how much it looks like a leaf-hopper. I found it’s a member of the spittlebug family — very interesting. I see the bubble masses often, but never the insects. I need to look more closely!

These are the full grown adults and they look quite different when growing in their bubble mass.

They are only a few mm long … yet they can jump quite a long distance.
