Asplenium trichomanes
This little fern grows in tufts and has dark brownish to blackish-stemmed, pinnate fronds with pairs of small, oval leaflets. Frond length up to 15cm.
Found growing in the crevices of old walls or rocks. A native species which is widespread but commonest in the west of Britain.

This has to be my favourite fern – into just because it is one of the few I can ID easily, but because of it’s shear tenacity on growing where it does sometimes.

Thank you for your comment, Paul. Yes, I know what you mean about identifyng ferns; can be tricky. But yes, this fern is so tenacious where it grows.
