Sycamore Piercer Pammene aurita

Forewing length 7 mm. The colouring of this moth can vary from brownish to orangey-brown, with a distinct pale orange dorsal patch. The larvae feed inside the seeds of Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus). The adult moths are on the wing in July and August, and it is readily attracted to light. Found in woodland, parks and gardens. A local species, it was first discovered in Britain in 1943, and since then it has become widely established in England and Wales, and has been expanding its range steadily northwards.
