ANIMALIA » INSECTA » LEPIDOPTERA » Notodontidae

28 UK species, 17 genera. These are furry, thick-bodied moths, and in most cases have long tapering forewings which are ususally held close to the body when at rest. The larvae are quite extraordinary in some species, having prominent lobe projections on their backs, or whip-like structures to deter predators.
