Forewing length 6-8 mm. The forewing has a reddish-brown netted pattern over a sandy ground colour, and a dark greyish-brown cross-line which may be variable in intensity. The larva feeds on Field Maple and Sycamore. The adult flies July and August, flies at dusk and is attracted to light. It is seen in mixed woodland, hedgerows, parks and gardens. Common and widespread, but local in Scotland.
