Description of Adult
Forewing length 20-26 mm. The silvery-white forewing has bold black and brown markings along the edges. Diagnostic feature is the clean white ‘wedge’ shape. Very similar to the Swallow Prominent (Pheosia tremula).

Larva & Foodplant
The larva feeds on birch (Betula).

Flight Season, Habitat, Status & Distribution
The adult flies in 2 generations in May and June, and later in August. It is found in Woodland, heathland, parks and gardens. Common and widespread throughout Britain.
