This unusual but beautiful mushroom has an orangey-brown, velvety cap. It has a white stem which becomes tinged with orange as it matures. Beneath it has no pores or gills, but long spine or tooth-like hymenophores. Cap width: 2 to 5cm. Stem height 3 to 6cm.
Fruits autumn, and it is found in deciduous and coniferous woods. Fairly common throughout Britain and Ireland.
