Family Julidae

Length 30 mm.

This is one of Britain’s largest millipedes. Very well marked and unmistakable with 2 conspicuous dark orange stripes running the entire length of the body. It has a pointed projecting telson.

Seen all year round, it feeds on decaying plant material.

It has a broad habitat range including fields, meadows and woodland, with a preference for sandy soils. Found under bark, logs, on tree trunks and walls. Native to Britain, common and widespread throughout.
