A low, creeping perennial spread by rooting runners. The leaves are easily recognised by their fern-like appearance and silvery colour, especially underneath.The solitary yellow flowers do not always appear in some damp habitats.

It flowers May to August, and is found in a variety of habitats including open grassland, roadside verges, and along canals. Very common and widespread throughout Great Britain.
