Length 0.2-1.4 mm.

Also called Moss Mites or Beetle Mites, Oribatid mites are the third largest group of mites belonging to the order Oribatida. These very small mites occur in soil and humus, and occasionally on tree trunks and foliage.

They are mostly harmless and play a role in breaking down organic matter. Amongst the most numerous soil arthropods, these mites are important in the development of soil fertility.

One of these is most likely a nymph, and the other with the jagged lines and ‘barbs’ possibly Astegistes pilosus .
