Yellow-striped Darwin Wasp Ichneumon xanthorius

Ichneumon xanthorius male

Length 15 mm. This is a medium to large species of wasp. Both the male and the female have very distinct black and yellow abdominal bands. It is predatory on moth and butterfly larvae.

Usually seen feeding on umbellifers, or flying through foliage on the hunt for prey. Not a very well recorded species, with a few scattered reports in England and in Wales.
