Gorytes laticinctus male

Length 9-13 mm. This is the rarest of the British Gorytes. The face is largely yellow, extending above the level of the antennal insertions.

Nests are excavated in the ground by the female, and the larvae are provisioned with froghoppers or similar bugs. The adults feed on nectar.

Seen June to September, and found on rough vegetation such as brambles in open situations. Occasionally found in gardens. Rare, and found mainly in the south of England.
