Fabricius’ Nomad Bee – Nomada fabriciana

Nomada fabriciana (Linnaeus, 1767)

FW length 5-8 mm.

A bright red almost amber coloured bee, which can be distinguished from other nomads by the combination of black labrum (upper lip) and bifid mandibles.

It attacks several Andrena species but primarily A. bicolor.

It is bivoltine (two broods) and seen March to June, and June to August. It is found in a variety of habitats, including woodland and open areas. Locally common and widespread.
