Buffish Mining Bee – Andrena nigroaenea

Andrena nigroaenea (Kirby, 1802)

Length 14 mm.

It has dark gingery brown hair on the thorax and abdomen but the tail is covered with black hairs.

They inhabit areas with dry sandy soil such as heathland. They are seen from March onwards and are one of the first species to appear in the Spring. Fairly frequent in England and Wales.
