This year seems to have been a good year for the emergence of the Large Red Damselfly (Pyrrhosoma nymphula) from the garden pond. I observed quite a few in the garden, and this one was resting on my garage wall.
I do love the damselflies. They’re becoming ever thicker around the marinas now; they seem especially fond on perching on the mooring lines. I’ve seen only a few red ones. Most are blue or turquoise — but they do have those big eyes!
Damselflies are one of my favourite insects. They lack the power of a true dragonfly, but there is beauty and grace in their delicate movements. I am pleased you are seeing them there, and in good numbers, too š
We also had the red dragonfly by our pond. It’s lovely.
