Back in February I noticed the frogs had did their thing and laid eggs in small clumps initially. Then as the days passed the pond was quite full of eggs!
And there appeared to be no stopping them.
I spotted around 3 frogs amidst the plant growth and frogspawn, appearing quite content.
I even found one out and about skirting the perimeter. Now the pond is alive with young tadpoles eating algae off the stones.

Superb sharp focus, Pete. Must be encouraging to have the frogs and spawn populating the pond once again. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that frogs are a good sign of a healthy natural balance.
I hear lots of frogs behind my apartment block in summer, but have never seen a frog anywhere there. Part of the reason is the reeds and undergrowth are so thick that one can’t really get close to the water. Still, I love the sound of frogs (or cicadas) in the air.

Excellent Pete. Strangely we had no frogs visit, newts yes, lots of newts. Our friends ‘imported’ a couple of frogs and some spawn but no taddies emerged, the newts scoffed the lot. The other day we had a monster Grass Snake slide in the pond, at least three foot of it, so the amphibians better watch their backs!

Frogs and a healthy environment go hand-in-hand. Their absence is a wake-up call that something is not right.

Thank you 🙂 It’s hard to say. Many don’t survive, unfortunately, but the few that do will go on to suceed the next generation 🙂

Nice set, Pete. I’ve never caught frogs in fra delecto. 🙂 That’s quite a large number of potential frogs. We’d be in plague territory if they all survived.

Yes, teeming, but mostly hidden now by Water Mint and Yellow Flag which have gone mad this year! I need to thin them out at the right time. Thank you, Julie 🙂
