Something To Cuddle … Well Almost

No it’s not my new pet, and it is not a new rug, either … it is a moth which looks like it has a bull’s head. It is called the Pale Tussock Calliteara pudibunda, and they are very much attracted to light sources. The adults are sexually dimorphic, with the females being generally larger and plainer than the males.

  1. This creature isn’t like anything I’d have ever imagined! .. the crazy thing is that if I entirely ignore size, looking at it makes me think of a sloth with big wings! 😀

    1. Lol! It is quite a strange one … and I have come across even stranger things since and hope to share. Even after all these years nature is still surprising me! 🙂

  3. I was thinking it was one of the fuzzy spiders when I glimpsed your header image—very nice head on capture! No cuddling for either from me, although he is rather a beauty.

  4. In the first image, the head almost looks like a bison or yak. What a bizarre (and fascinating) moth.
