Meadow Grasshopper (Chorthippus parallelus) – I very, very rarely find grasshoppers in the garden. This one though I found on my patio doorstep. It was only a young one, but it sure had a spring in its step.

He almost looks like a cartoon grasshopper. What a great find! Nice work Pete!

It almost looks as though it is a model built from paper or wood shavings (the front of it anyway). Is the eye closed because it is still a hopper or is the colouring part of its camouflage?

It’s all camouflage. Insects do not have eyelids.
