Araniella cucurbitina sensu lato – One of the more colourful spiders with a delightful common name. They are only small. You can tell how big it is by the fragment of moss it is clinging to in the top image whilst it is pretending to be ‘Super Spider’. Double-click images to enlarge.

Not only is it truly tiny (great macro shots, by the way, and love that first one!), but it appears to be one of the rather minority line of spiders with only six eyes, rather than the (usual) eight.

Thank you, Gary. Well noticed about the eyes. This one was found in the house, most likely got carried in on one of us, but it was a devil to photo because it wouldn’t stay put. It made up for it in that osture it took in the first image 🙂

Spiders I don’t actually mind. I’m sure there’s things in the macro world which make the teeny cucumbers feel Super.
