Wolfy In The Sun

Wolf Spider (Pardosa sp.) – These furry critters just love to hang around in the sun. Lots of these around at the moment. Double-click image to get even closer … if you really wanna.

It was exceptionally cool to see the enlarged view of your wolf spider, Pete. By coincidence I photographed a wolf spider yesterday that someone in a spider group in Facebook identified as Tigrosa georgicola. I will probably post a photo tomorrow or the day after. As you know, some folks really like spiders and others are creeped out or frightened of them–there seems to be no middle group.

Thank you, Mike! I hope you post your wolf spider shot. Some folk do get creeped out, but I also think some of those may be coming around in a appreciation of them from the images and info on them we post here 🙂

I was sure from your title that the photo would be of a wolf spider, but I couldn’t figure out why ‘wolfie’ was ringing a bell. Finally, I got it — my upstairs neighbor’s dog is named Wolfie. He’s a little thing, and yappy. He’s much more annoying than these spiders.

Thank you, Indira 🙂 I believe they are called Wolf Spiders because of their thick hairy appearance, and because they are avid stalkers and hunters of their prey.
