Araneus diadematus – This was a relatively small Garden Spider which was hanging around on a fence panel at the bottom of the garden. I am always taken by the intricacy of their webs, but it looks like this one has had one or two problems. Double-click image for a closer look.

This is a most interesting looking spider.

She looks like she’s trying to construct a web that came from IKEA — a few parts missing, and indecipherable instructions!

I often find the underside, ventral as Indira mentioned, as if not more interesting than the top. Especially when you catch one producing silk from its spinneret. This one seems to have become tangled in its own thread.

I do, too, Steve. You also get to see other interesting details you would not normally see.

I’m trying not to get tingly toes looking at this, although I must confess it’s a jolly good picture!

I am pleased you gave it a go despite the tingles in your toes! Thank you very much! 🙂

Oh what a tangled web we weave…I see a lot of these non-scary beasties. Interesting patterns when you get close up.

🙂 They do have interesting patterns. This was the spider that got me interested in creepy-crawlies when I was a kid.
