Goldenrod Crab Spider

Misumena vatia – These have to be the craftiest spiders I know of. This one was waiting for flies to land on the rose blossom to grab and eat. Double-click image for a closer look.

I absolutely love crab spider, Pete, and lament the fact that I see them so rarely. Beautiful capture of this one–we all know that roses have thorns, but apparently other dangers lurk as well.

Wow, those eyes are looking right back at all of us! What a fascinating spider. If we have that variety here I’ve never seen it. Cool capture!

I don’t generally like spiders, but for some reason these little guys don’t bother me – perhaps because they don’t look so spidery. (It’s the legs; it’s always all those d*** legs.) Our crab spiders favour the yellow coreopsis we have at our cottage; you never have to look far to find one. I do admire their camo abilities!
