Emmelina monodactyla – An odd-looking moth which often rests with its wings rolled tightly up. It is quite a weak flier, and will only travel a short distance before settling down again.

Wow. That is a strange-looking moth, Pete.

I never would have guessed a moth could come in such a shape as this one.

The first time I saw one of these I had no idea what it was, just looked like some lint floating around. They are cool moths and a challenge to get a good shot sometimes.

They do float like lint, and that is a good way of describing their slow and weak flight. I do indeed find these one of the harder of the lepidoptera to photograph. Their small size and odd shape do make it a challenge.

How extraordinary. I’ve never heard of a moth (or butterfly) rolling its wings up and it makes for a very unusual photo.

They are indeed extraordinary, and completely different to what we perceive to be moth-like. I often soo them in the summer slowly fluttering around the flowers in the garden.

It looks as though it is on the runway ready for take-off.

They are quite unique, and one could say they fall into the ‘weird and wonderful’ section of the moth world. Thank you, Indira 🙂
