Wonder what the other side looks like. This one is attractive enough but I bet the other is possibly pearlescent? Some poor clam is walking around naked.
I especially like the contrast in textures between the sand and the shell. On the other hand, the colors in the sand seem to suggest the kind of ground-up shell that surely is part of it.

I should imagine you are quite right with the sand being ground-up shells and perhaps of the same kind of shell.
