I love snails, especially their pretty shells. On walks, I’ll sometimes gather a few discarded shells. What I want to know is, are those “discarded” ones ever potentially a home for another snail that happens to come across it? In other words, should I leave the shells where they are?

As a child the first thing I ever collected was a jar of snail shells as I too was fascinated by their variations. I still have them!

I really like their shells, too. But once the snail dies the shell is much like a seashell and becomes permanently vacant, so gather all you want 🙂
