Last night was a very hot and close one, so sleep was quite restless. So up early to find this Opium Poppy (Papaver somniferum) flower catching the first rays of sunlight.

Lovely! I have a similar one budding up now. My reds (in a sunnier spot) opened today.

Thank you, Eliza 🙂 Enjoy your poppies! These buds open to the world but only briefly.

Beautiful shots, Pete. The early morning light is so lovely and gives the flowers just the right angle of light for photography purposes.

I find in summer the early morning light is much less harsh and kinder to the subject, too. Thank you, Vicki 🙂

The first photo is beautiful and soft – I should have done the same as I was awake at 4 a.m. Tomorrow maybe.
