After 3 years since I built my small garden pond and planted this Yellow Flag Iris Iris pseudacorus it has flowered for the very first time to my joy. This is the first bloom, and it looks like there are many more to come.

I thought they might not ever flower! But yes, worth the wait! Thank you, Anita 🙂

Wow! It’s beautiful. Your wait for three years has shown up successfully. Nature never disappoints one.

What a treat. I think I first saw yellow flags as a child on Anglesey, and was captivated even then.

Beautiful addition to the pond Pete, all you need is a Swallowtail on it 🙂

Thank you, Brian 🙂 I think the only way I will get a Swallowtail on it is if the Swallowtail Moth lands on it. Or I print and cut out one of your very fine images and glue it on, lol! 🙂

Well worth the wait! Very attractive and you’ve photographed it at the best time in my mind – just as the buds are newly opened.
Could you please post a photo of your pond at the current time showing what’s grown. I seem to remember you posting a photo when you first built it about 18 months (?) ago and I would be interested to see how it looks now that it’s been through a full series of seasons.

Thank you, Vicki 🙂 When the weather clears I will post a photo of the pond, thank you for asking, and hopefully more of these flowers will be showing 🙂

I inherited these irises and they have flowered each year in May, but this year the first one opened today! So a little later than usual. They grow very tall and can look tatty when the leaves start to die, but when flowering in a group they are quite lovely.

Well today the other buds seem to have stopped opening dead in their tracks and this single flower is sopping wet and drooping after a day of heavy rain. And I think thunderstorms are forecast for Sunday here. Mind you the gardens do need the rain 🙂

I guess now your flag irises have settled in they’ll start taking over the pond. Enjoy them while they’re young!

I will, Judith, thank you 🙂 The Water Mint almost overran it last year and I had to remove some.
