They are such pretty things aren’t they? Grow like weeds in my garden and I am forever pulling them out, but back they come and make such a pretty blue carpet in spring.
They are really pretty, and I have loved them from as along as I can remember. They only ever to appear to grow in one spot in my front garden, and that was where they must have seeded for I haven’t planted them.
I always enjoy watching the flowers change color from bud to bloom. It seems to be more common the purple/blue flowers, but our yellow prickly pear flowers are starting now, and they’re often orange in the beginning. These little gems are pure delight. They remind me of the decorative flowers on my childhood straw hat.
Thank you, Indira π As to the name, apparently thereβs a myth of two lovers walking along the Danube River first seeing the bright blue blossoms. The man retrieved the flowers for the woman, but he was swept away by the river and told her not to forget him as he floated away.
Oh my, by coincidence (without seeing this) I just posted a collage of blue flowers, butterlies, etc., including one of my favourite flowers, forget-me-nots! They are so delicate and pretty, aren’t they?
Beautiful flowers!
Pete, I have a question for you being a naturalist! I have a large bed of tall yellow iris that grow and thrive very well, but out of the whole bed only a half dozen blooms appear each year. Do you have any suggestions. The bulbs multiply prolifically, but do not bloom??
dwight
Thank you Dwight π Actually I have the same problem here with Yellow Iris which is growing in my garden pool. It has been there coming on three years and has yet to bloom. I also remember when I was a young boy my folks had a fairly large border of Purple Iris and we would only get a few blooms each year, alhough the plants themselves thrived. I am afraid it is a mystery to me. Perhaps one for Google.
Absolutely gorgeous Pete, super flower.

π The flowers are quite small, but they can grow in quite a beautiful mass.
