A Photographic Journey Through South Staffordshire and Elsewhere
Winter Morning Light
I have added no photoshop effects to this. This is the image more or less as I took it that cold winter’s morn as the sunlight filtered through the ivy cloaked trees of the woods.
December 2016, local wood, Staffordshire, England.
Pete, I can smell the cold and moisture. That pale winter morning light is a unique light that needs to be experienced to fully appreciate. Thanks for poking a few memory neurons in my brain.
Thank you, Jill π The winter light can be quite special sometimes, but lately it has been grey and quite depressing. Can’t wait for the spring! π
I very much like the contrast between the glow and the rays. The way the rays are slanting down onto the darker branches in the bottom left is subtle, but effective. It’s not often that something in a corner seems to balance the rest of a photo, but I think it happens here.
You have a good eye for things, Linda. I wasn’t sure about the foreground branches, but by cropping them out would have knocked the sun off centre. I am pleased you liked it so. Thank you π
Oh this is beautiful!

This really gives a feeling of cold with a beautiful light that passes through the trees.

Lovely, almost wistful. A promise that spring isn’t here yet, but soon will be.

I love it that you didn’t need to alter the photo at all. It is lovely.
