How Many Seeds Does A Strawberry Have?

Considering they are the only fruit with the seeds on the outside (why? I wonder), the average strawberry has around 200 seeds. I have mine growing in a few pots around the garden, and some are ripening nicely like the one above, considering June has been quite a wet one so far.

I didn’t quite realise how hairy they are.

    Its amazing to see the seeds up close like this – normally when I look at them, they’re such little dots I barely give them a thought! I’ve grown them in the open ground when we lived in Queenstown, NZ. I had no idea they would grow there but I found there used to be a strawberry farm near where I lived. So I had a go and they were very successful. There’s nothing like strawberries fresh from the garden to eat. They really are a taste sensation. I trust you get to enjoy some very tasty, juicy strawberries!

      I have grown strawberries for the past 3 years, and they are tasty and sweet 🙂 My garden is only small so I only grow a few, but I propagate a few each season to keep the line going. Its great they grew well for you, too, and in the open ground. Thank you for your comment 🙂

      Thank you, Diana 🙂 I remember watching a French film called ‘Microcosmos’ quite some years ago now which captivated me completely and has stayed with me since. It has an amazing music score and even more amazing film of our micro world around us. Since then I have always wanted to get close and closer to nature 🙂 It’s great to have you as my macro stalker 🙂

        I will keep an eye out for that film Pete! I do recall the Cosmos series many years back with Carl Sagan. Did you see that? Fascinating, though that was the larger, interplanetary universe of course, not this amazing minuscule one we are transfixed by.

        🙂 Oh I do remember watching Cosmos when it first aired here back in the 1980s and was completely captivated it by it. Carl Sagan was brilliant, and music by Vangelis. You can see Microcosmos here if you wish to 🙂

    Amazing.
    Seems to me the wild, or home-grown strawberries, seem more hairy than the commercially grown fruit in the supermarkets or maybe that’s my imagination working.

    Your photo is berry good! Seeds always amaze me – programmed by the Creator. Btw – I still don’t a macro lens – but your images are gradually pushing me there!

      Thank you Michael 🙂 I wished for a macro lens for some years, and once I stepped up from bridge cameras to DSLRs I got my macro. And you know what? I have never had so much fun with a lens, and have never looked back since! Once you make that leap, you will be hooked! 🙂 Glad I am helping you along the way 🙂
