Yellow Flag

Iris pseudacorus

I adore Irises, and this one has to be one of my very favourites.

The vibrant yellow colour of the Yellow Flag makes this plant stand out above many others near the waterside. The leaves are sword-shaped.

It flowers June to August, and is found near marshes, on the banks of rivers and streams, the margins of reedbeds and ditches, and around the edges of ponds. A common and widespread species.

  1. I’m fond of irises myself, and the yellow is a favorite. They’re not so common around here, although I’ve seen great stands of them in Louisiana. Some of our first wildflowers are beginning to emerge, so it’s time to start paying attention. It won’t be long before the bayous and ditches will be awash in color.

    • Thank you for your lovely comment, Linda πŸ™‚ I like the purple iris also. They remind me of my childhood. Yes, it is time here to take more notice as the land wakes from its winter slumber. The snowdrops are almost fully open.
